Deutsches Essen.. its whats for dinner...

hmmm yes.. the German food.. which has a reputation for being rather gross.. but having been in China before this trip- German food is heaven! hahah
  1.   most strange dinner I have had was.. raw herring with raw apples, raw onion, and potato.. if you mixed it all together you couldnt really taste the fishyness.. it was salty but sweet.. so weird
  2. Grilled cheese..LITERALLY. I came home from soccer one time to find my family eating on teh back porch.. I had already finished dinner when my host dad asked me if I wanted a grilled cheese.. not the sandwich of course (stupid American!) literally...grilled cheese.. it comes in a package of 4.. and its literally a slab of cheese with spices already on it..
  3.   At my first birthday party we had something called Becks Ice.. it's beer (only 2.5% alcohol content no worries) but its mint and lime.. rather tasty!
  4. They also have a thing called a Rattler.. its beer and well..sprite! haha
  5. I like the wine here.... however the redwine is SOOOO dry and hard to even swallow.. whew
  6. Pumpkins... at home pumpkins are usually a dessert ingredient.. or a decoration. Here, they eat pumpkins in a lot of things.. (in German Pumpkin is Kurbis..) we had pumpkin soup last night.. it was good.. they dont know about squash (i changed that) but Pumpkins they do like.
  7. At my aunts birthday party.. it was outdoor bbq.. and my host mom had apparently told her I was a vegetarian.. I didnt know.. but while my uncle was serving up some nice chicken and sausages.. I was surprised with plates upon plates of Grilled Zuccini.. it was good to say teh least just kind of funny!
  8. The cakes are ridiculous here.. at my grandfathers birthday.. he had like 5 different cakes to choose from haha..
  9. they dont have corn starch here....
  10. Mustard Pizza... yes, you head me. MUSTARD PIZZA.Let's get some things straight here.. I like Mustard-no, I love mustard. I discovered a nice homemade pizza with spinach, feta and tomatoes today so I tried it out.. it tasted so bizarre.. i didnt know if it was the cheese or what..turn out..it's base was MUSTARD.
  11. Tonight we had a traditional Swiss meal.. Pfister revised though.. usually in Switzerland they take a slab of cheese and melt it by the fire.. when it starts to melt they pour that over potatoes.. a hardy starchy meal.. however we have these nifty little plate things that we heat up.. you put what you want on these little cast iron plates..then cheese on top.. once it's melted you scrap it onto your plate.. make another before you eat so it's not crowding your plate..it was interesting!
  12. stewed lentils...with carrots...and some strange dumpling type of deal.
  13. They have these round sausage looking cylinders.. and you cut it into slices.. take the wrapping off around the edges and then SPREAD IT ON things.. it spreads.
  14. best.apples.ever.
  15. Ramazzoti: Leonie's favorite Schnapps. bahah
  16. the way to crack an egg: you have a hard boiled egg in this special little holder right? and then they have this contraption that you put on TOP of the egg. it's a egg cap, a long pipe-like thing.. with a ball that goes up and down. You put it on the egg and raise the ball and let it drop on top of the egg (twice) then you remove it and there should be a fine line of cracked egg around the top. perfecto mundo.
